Bend happens to be the biggest city in the Central Oregon area and county seat of Deschutes County. With more than 70,000 residents, Bend is a fast growing city with a small town heart. Since 1990, the population has more than tripled, with more and more people visiting the city and not wanting to leave. And for some very good reasons! Incorporated in 1905 by its 300 residents, Bend is actually a shortened version of "Farewell Bend," which is what the old pioneers used to call the sleepy lumber settlement on the Deschutes River that eventually became the city we know today. Bend now has a rich and vibrant culture mingled with its beautiful setting and year round outdoor recreational activities. Among such activities are skiing, fishing, hunting, white water rafting, golfing, mountain biking and hiking, various winter/summer festivals, and much more.
After a long day of ranging the outdoors, Bend offers health and beauty spas for the ultimate in rest and relaxation and many shopping areas of interest, along with plenty of art galleries, museums, and musical events. The city also provides incredible dining experiences ranging from casual eateries and local brew pubs to theater feasts and fine dining restaurants.
